The HD-PGD1.0U3B, HD-PA256TU3S and HD-PNF1.0U3-BB were connected to a PC equipped with a USB 3.0 port, and the speed of sequential writes (data size: 1,000 MB) was measured using "Crystal Disk Mark 3.0.3" (as tested by BUFFALO, May 2014). * Transfer speeds may vary widely depending on the number and size of files transferred, type of access, and other usage environment factors.

The HDD was connected to the PC's USB port and 200 5-MB JPEG files stored on the computer's internal SSD were then copied to the HDD. The time required from start to completion of copying was measured, with data copied to the HD-PGD1.0U3B via a USB 3.0 connection with the DRAM cache enabled and "TurboPC EX" software Speed mode on, to the HD-PA256TU3S with no USB 3.0 software, and to the HD-PNF1.0U3-BB with USB 3.0 with the "TurboPC EX" software Speed mode off. 1. Speeds up writing "DRAM Cache"

DRAM cache is a technology that routes data sent from the PC to the HDD via high-speed DRAM to increase data write speeds.
The HD-PGDU3's high-capacity DRAM cache enables you to write data even faster.

2. More efficient data transfers "TurboPC EX"

Using "TurboPC EX" Speed Mode increases efficiency in transferring data from the computer to the hard disk drive, thereby reducing the time needed in copying the data.

3. 10 times faster than USB 2.0. "USB 3.0" Interface

The HD-PGDU3's USB 3.0 interface features a maximum transfer speed (standard value) of 5 Gbps. This is more than ten times faster than the 480 Mbps transfer rate available with conventional USB 2.0.

TurboPC EX features three modes: "Save mode," which compresses the data, "Speed mode" for high-speed writing, and "Balance mode," automatically selects Save mode or Speed mode based on the type of file being copied.

When the drive is in standby with no data transferred for a specified period of time, the software spins down and stops the drive and switches it to "Energy-Saving Mode." This "Energy-Saving Mode" provides tremendous savings in power consumption as compared with normal standby (idling).
